Marie Gaarder's closing plenary speech

At the IDEAS conference closing plenary, 3ie’s Executive Director, Marie Gaarder, highlighted the mounting challenges facing the evaluation community—shrinking aid budgets, misinformation, and weakening democratic institutions. She emphasized the need to protect independent evaluation, strengthen evidence-informed policymaking, and uphold shared values amidst growing pressures. 3ie is championing these efforts through initiatives like the Global Evidence Commitment, fostering a culture of evidence use. Despite challenges, the evaluation community has the tools, adaptability, and collaboration needed to drive positive change. Let’s navigate these turbulent times together.
